Mountain Goats of Avalanche Lake http://www.julielubick.com/blog/2015/11/mountain-goats-of-avalanche-lake We had the pleasure of sharing a beautiful fall day at Avalanche Lake with this mountain goat family.  The kids had a blast crossing the creek and using a fallen tree as a playground.  Mountain Goats are icons of Glacier National Park and are amazing athletes who live in the most Inhospitable cliffs and mountains.

Running Eagle Falls http://www.julielubick.com/blog/2011/11/Running-Eagle-Falls Running Eagle Falls, also known as Trick Falls, is actually two falls in one – during spring run-off, water rushes over the upper falls obscuring the lower falls. By late summer, the upper falls dry up while water rushes through a cave that creates the lower falls.  The falls are located in the Two Medicine area of Glacier National Park.

Colorful Hot Springs http://www.julielubick.com/blog/2011/4/Colorful-Hot-Springs Yellowstone National Park contains half of the earth’s geothermal features and is the planet’s most diverse and intact collection of geysers, hot springs, mudpots, and fumaroles.  The hot springs display some of the most brilliant color found anywhere in nature, this collection of images show just a little of the incredible colors.

Quake Lake http://www.julielubick.com/blog/2011/4/Quake-Lake Quake Lake (or officially Earthquake Lake) is located in southwest Montana and was created after a huge earthquake struck the area in August 1959.  The earthquake measured 7.3 on the Richter scale and caused an 80 million ton landslide which formed a dam on the Madison River. The landslide traveled down the south side of Sheep Mountain, at an estimated 100 miles per hour, killing 28 people who were camping along the shores of Hebgen Lake and downstream along the Madison River.  This earthquake remains the largest known earthquake to have struck the state of Montana in recorded history,  and is one of the largest earthquakes ever to hit the United States in recorded history.

River Otters http://www.julielubick.com/blog/2011/4/River-Otters River Otters are the most playful, energetic and charismatic animals I’ve ever photographed.  I was lucky enough to spend a couple of days with this family of otters at Yellowstone’s Trout Lake in the northeast corner of the park.

The reason otters are found at Trout Lake is because of spawning Cutthroat Trout.  The fish must travel in into the shallow tributary to spawn but that makes them easy for the otters to catch.

Is it spring yet? http://www.julielubick.com/blog/2011/3/Is-it-spring-yet The snow here in Montana is starting to melt and I’m getting anxious for spring to finally arrive.  Probably my favorite part of spring is the return of migratory birds so I though I’d share some images of singing birds from the past few years.

Trees in Black & White http://www.julielubick.com/blog/2011/2/Trees-in-Black-White I’m still on a bit of a black and white kick.  I downloaded a trial version of an awesome Photoshop plug-in called Nik Silver Efex Pro which makes converting color images to black and white very easy.  It also produces incredible detail and allows for amazing tonal range.

Here’s a few more landscape images of forests and trees from Yellowstone, Glacier and Montana.  I’ve also uploaded several more images to my black and white website gallery and I’ll be posting more on the blog soon.
